Carlow Councillors were outraged by the new EU boiler laws at the January Carlow County Council meeting that took place earlier in the week.
Before January 1st, Local Authorities across the country could help our pensioners to replace a gas or oil heating system under the Housing Aid for Older People Grant.
The new laws stop local authorities giving grants for our pensioners to replace their oil and gas heating systems.

Cllr Ken Murnane's initial reaction to the Eu laws was “It is going to cause serious problems.“
Independent Councillor Charlie Murphy said that it is “quite unfair to older people“ and it is “almost as far as discrimination.“
Cllr John Pender also added that it will “leave our most vulnerable left with no heating.“
Chief Executive of Carlow County Council, Coilín O'Reilly said, “It is an EU directive that we have to follow“ and “we need to make it work.“
He left the discussion by saying “we need to come up with a solution, we can't have older people without heating.“
