Up to €25,000 will be available to each qualifying nursing home
Fianna Fáil Minister of State and Carlow TD, Jennifer Murnane O'Connor, has welcomed the announcement of the opening for applicants of the Residential Premises Upgrade Scheme.
The Residential Premises Upgrade Scheme is set up to assist nursing homes with the financial challenges that come with upgrading and improving their premises to help comply with regulations.
Up to €25,000 will be available to each qualifying nursing home for structural works to improve compliance, and Nursing homes may claim for works carried out this year between 1 January and 14 November 2025 and also for works previously undertaken during 2024, between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2024 that meet the scheme criteria.

Minister Murnane O'Connor says nursing homes play a vital role in communities across the country, and financial support will be welcome news.
“I am delighted to hear that the Residential Premises Upgrade Scheme has secured funding as part of Budget 2025 and is now open for applications. Nursing homes play a vital role throughout communities across the country.
“In order to maintain and improve their premises to meet the needs of their residents, it is essential that nursing homes are given financial support," she said.
“It is of paramount importance that residents and their families feel that they are safe, and that their needs are always met to the highest possible standards for as long as they need it.
“I would encourage all private and voluntary nursing homes who meet the criteria for this scheme to apply. Applications are now open and will close on November 14th, 2025,” she concluded.
