Buckets, bikes and big hearts as Carlow Spinathon raises huge sum for local cancer charity

Two Carlow men and a team of Penneys staff have raised almost €5,000 for a local cancer cahrity after a mammoth 48-hour Spinathon fundraiser.

Sean Quinlan and Scott Gibbons completed the gruelling 4x4x48 challenge, cycling 4km every four hours for two days straight, to raise funds for Carlow's Éist Cancer Support Centre.

All the while, staff at Penneys Carlow, Éist's charity partner, kept the energy high in-store with their own Spinathon and on-the-spot stunts to help bring in donations.

Throughout the day, Penneys staff took turns hopping on the spinning bikes, collecting buckets of donations from shoppers, and cheering on the fundraising effort.

In a post on Facebook, Éist Cancer Support Centre Carlow praised everyone involved, thanking their "fundraising heroes," saying: "A special shout-out to our charity partner Penneys Carlow for hosting a fantastic Spinathon, and to the incredible Penneys staff who took to the spinning bikes and shook buckets all day long.

"Your energy and enthusiasm were amazing," they added.

Mark Delaney, Manager of the Leisure Centre at the Talbot Hotel Carlow, was also thanked for generously donating two exercise bikes for the event.

In total, an impressive €4,923 was raised to support Éist's free emotional and practical services for people affected by cancer in Carlow and surrounding counties.

"Because of you, we can continue to provide free emotional and practical cancer support services to those who need us most," Éist said.
