RTE Room To Improve viewers blast Dermot Bannon over latest episode of hit show
RTE Room To Improve viewers were quick to criticise architect Dermot Bannon after the latest episode of the hit show on Sunday night.
In episode 3, Dermot and Claire met Sandra and Daniel Davey in Knocklyon, Dublin, who bought their dream home for €500,000 over four years ago.
However, a conservatory added by its previous owners was leaking and as a result, the house was so cold that Sandra, Daniel and their two young children spent most their time in the front room.
The Davey's main aim was to make their home warmer and more liveable, and to increase its energy efficiency. On a renovation budget of €130,000, of which half would be needed for retrofitting, Dermot still managed to add in some luxuries like a large planter outside the kitchen window.
However, viewers were quick to criticise when finances became even tighter due to overruns but Dermot seemingly wasn't giving up on his dreams for the couple's house.
"Jesus, what bit of “we can’t afford it” is Dermot not getting! How often do people wait a year or whatever to do the garden… it is not normal to have everything perfect immediately," one frustrated viewer wrote on X.
Another chimed in: "The whole show is silly now, Dermot our budget is €20, we can’t go a cent above it, an hour later and it’s ’we went slightly over budget by €3 million’ but the windows open all the way back…"
A third added: "It’s the most frustrating thing about the show.. most episodes see magic money appearing towards the end,, which I imagine is not representative of the majority. It would be great to see a show where they stick to budget…"
In the end, the Sandra and Daniel's home was transformed into a bright and warm family home with a purpose-built detached office in the back garden. Take a look below:
