Cillian Murphy among Irish talent nominated for Oscars 2024

Cillian Murphy is among several talented Irish people nominated for this year's Oscars.

The Cork man has received a Best Actor nomination for his role as physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer epic alongside fellow leading men Bradley Cooper (Maestro), Colman Domingo (Rustin), Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers), and Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction).

Oppenheimer has dominated the nominations list with a massive 13 nods, including Best Picture, Best Director for Christopher Nolan, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr, Best Supporting Actress for Emily Blunt, Best Sound, and Best Cinematography, among many others.

Unfortunately, Murphy's fellow Irish actors, Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers), Barry Keoghan (Saltburn), have not received nominations despite both being nominated for Golden Globes in the Best Actor category.

Steampunk fairy tale sensation Poor Things, produced by Irish company Element Pictures, has also been nominated in a whopping 11 categories, including Best Director for Yorgos Lanthimos, Best Actress for Emma Stone, and Best Supporting Actor for Avengers star Mark Ruffalo.

Poor Things cinematographer, Robbie Ryan, has also been nominated for Best Cinematography.

Commenting on the news on their X (formerly Twitter) page, Element Pictures stated: "Big news! Poor Things nominated for 11 Oscars."

Fans of the production team congratulated them on X, with the Light House Cinema commenting: "A massive congrats to all the team at Element Pictures for 11 Oscar nominations for Poor Things!"
