The RTE Late Late Show will not be aired this Friday night as the long-running chat show takes a break as part of its new schedule under Patrick Kielty.

The show schedule has been shaken up since Patrick Kielty replaced Ryan Tubridy last September with a reduced number of shows being aired throughout the year.

This week is one of the break weeks in a run of 30 shows for the season, which includes the Toy Show, New Year's Eve special and the country music special.

This Friday night's RTE Late Late Show is being replaced by Brooklyn, director John Crowley's romantic movie starring Saoirse Ronan as the number of episodes are reduced.

Kielty's most recent show saw Derry Girls and Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan joined by Mel B on the sofa.

It was clear that Nicola and Mel were fans of each other and as Mel B probed the Galway native with questions about her next project, Patrick jokingly walked away from his desk as if to suggest he wasn't needed for the chat.

The Late Late Show Twitter account even joked that Mel B was "guest host" for the night.

Viewers loved the interaction between Mel B and Nicola and took to social media to praise both. Patrick also played an adorable clip of Nicola impersonating the Spice Girls as a child.

One wrote: "Great show so far. Loving the fandom between Nicola and Mel B."

Another added: "I am loving how into this Mel B is; she's like a cheerleader for Nicola."
