Celebrity chef Kevin Dundon has become the latest contestant to be eliminated from Dancing with the Stars Ireland, ending his entertaining run on the show.
Despite his best efforts on Country Week, which saw contestants embrace a Nashville-style theme, Dundon and his pro partner Rebecca Scott found themselves in the bottom two alongside former Miss Universe Ireland Aishah Akorede.
After a dance-off, the judges ultimately saved Aishah, sending Kevin home.
Reflecting on his time on the show, Dundon remained in high spirits. “I feel great. I’ve had the time of my life,” he said, paying tribute to his dance partner. Rebecca, in turn, described Kevin as “a ray of sunshine”.
His elimination sparked plenty of reaction online, with many fans saying the decision was overdue.
“At last… lovely man but he has been winging it for weeks,” one viewer wrote, while another shared a similar, "Thank Christ."
Another added, “Long overdue, and well you know it.”
Others, however, were sad to see him go, having enjoyed his stint on the show.
“For entertainment value and fun, Kevin really added to the show. I won’t find it as enjoyable now,” wrote one fan.
Dundon’s Charleston to Rompin’ Stompin’ by Scooter Lee scored 21 points on the night, the lowest of the evening. Meanwhile, Olympian Rhys McClenaghan continued to dominate the leaderboard, scoring an impressive 39 points for his American Smooth to Wagon Wheel.
Elsewhere, Jack Woolley and Danny O’Carroll were impressed with their quicksteps. At the same time, Kayleigh Trappe’s Rumba to I Will Always Love You earned praise for its elegance. The night also saw the return of the Team Dance challenge, with Team Timber (Danny, Aishah, and Rhys) taking the win over Team Footloose (Kevin, Kayleigh, and Jack).
Despite his departure, Dundon had become one of the most talked-about contestants this season. His performances may not have always won over the judges, but his lighthearted approach entertained audiences.
Next Sunday, the competition heats up even further with Fright Night as the remaining celebrities battle for a spot in the grand final.
