Irish Rail are in discussions to establish an overflow car park for Carlow Town train station using a local youth centre car park.

The matter came up at this month's meeting of Carlow County Council when Cllr Fergal Browne raised the lack of train services going through the station and the lack of seats on the trains.

He added that trains are overcrowded on a regular basis and asked about improving car parking at the station.

Commuters sometimes find there is a lack of spaces to park when they are using the train to get to work.

Director of Services, Dan McInerney, said Irish Rail are in discussions to use the youth centre car park for its customers.
