A councillor has asked for monthly updates from Carlow County Council due to the "seriousness" of the homeless crisis.

Speaking at this month's meeting of Carlow Municipal District, Cllr Jim Deane asked for monthly figures of those in emergency accommodation.

Director of Services, Michael Brennan, agreed to furnish the members with the figures on a monthly basis.

It comes as a total of 31 people were homeless in Carlow in March, according to the latest figures published by the Department of Housing - an increase of five people since February.
