Councillors debate banning election posters ahead of May as it becomes 'a bit of a farce'
Would you support a ban?
Councillors in Carlow Town have debated banning election posters for the Local Elections in May as the number of posters going up becomes "a bit of a farce".
Members were speaking at this month's meeting of Carlow Municipal District when Cllr Fergal Browne suggested "banning posters in the upcoming election" and he added that it "gets into a bit of a farce".
Cllr Ken Murnane said it is worth looking at and that members could come to a "local arrangement".
Cllr Brian O'Donoghue said it only takes one candidate to breach the arrangement and "it's a free for all".
He highlighted an arrangement in one Carlow town where the local Tidy Towns group makes the arrangement for where election posters can go.
"Show me a councillor who'll go against a Tidy Towns group, they decide," he added.
The members agreed to discuss the topic again in the coming weeks.
