RIP: Tributes pour in for Carlow grandmother who 'always greeted you with a smile'

Tributes have been paid to a much-loved grandmother and great-grandmother from Carlow following the death of Bridget "Bridie" Keogh (née Corcoran).

Bridie, a member of The Holy Cross Sodality and formerly of Barnhill, Castledermot, Co Kildare, passed away peacefully at her home on February 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Her RIP.ie death notice describes Bridie as the "beloved wife of the late Patrick" and "much loved mother of Helen, Alice, Bernard and the late John."

She was also an adored grandmother to Jane, Pádraic, Brid, Kate, Shauna, Padraic, Justin and Laura, a treasured great-grandmother to Saoirse and Páidí, and a cherished sister of Alice and the late Johney, Mary Ann and Jim.

In the notice, her family said she will be "sadly missed by her loving son, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, son-in-law Ger, daughter-in-law Margaret, Bernard's partner Marie, sister, nephews, nieces, relatives, friends and good neighbours".

Messages of sympathy have poured in with many remembering Bridie for her warmth and kindness.

One condolence message shared online said: "Our deepest sympathies to you Helen, Alice, Bernard & all the Keogh & Corcoran families on the passing of your loved one. Mrs Keogh was such a gentle, kind & lovely lady who always greeted you with a smile, may she rest in peace now reunited with many loved ones gone before."

Another tribute read: "A wonderful neighbour in Barnhill and a lovely lady. I remember cycling out to Bridie's house in Killeshin when I was young, her kind hospitality. RIP."

A further message added: "Love and sympathy to the loved ones of Bridie. The legacy she left behind in You is one to be proud of."

Bridie will repose at Carpenter Bros Funeral Home, Shamrock Square, Carlow, on Thursday (February 19) from 3.30pm, concluding with prayers at 8pm. Following prayers, she will be brought home "to spend her final night surrounded by the comfort of her own home," according to RIP.ie.

Removal will take place from her home on Friday morning at 10.30am to The Holy Cross Church, Killeshin, arriving for Funeral Mass at 11am, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Family flowers only have been requested, with donations, if desired, to Daffodil Day.
