NCT pass rate in Carlow is one of the lowest in the country

Carlow has the fifth lowest NCT pass rate in the country, latest figures reveal. 

Only 45.83 per cent of cars passed their tests at the centre in Carlow. 

This rate put Carlow below the national average. 

The pass rate in Carlow was slightly higher than the lowest ranked Derrybeg NCT Centre in Co Donegal which had a pass rate of just 40.01.

Cars tested in Cavan town and Clifden in Galway also didn't have a high success rate, with just 42.25pc and 43.96pc of cars passing inspection in the last 12 months, respectively.

At the other end of the scale, Deansgrange in Dublin had the highest pass rate with 62.65 per cent of cars passing there. 

Abbeyfeale was the next highest, with 60.58 of cars passing with Killarney at 59.87 and Portlaoise at 59.81.

A total of1,396,024 cars were tested last year. This was down on the 1,418,852 inspections carried out in 2021.

In total, 14 testing centres had pass rates of below 50pc, while the national average was 54.29pc in 2022.

This figure was a little over 1.5pc up on the previous year.
