'Public expects local authority to deal with litter on our streets' says local TD

Carlow's Litter Management Plan was discussed at the September County Council Meeting held this week.

Local Fianna Fáil TD Fintan Phelan commented on the plan saying 'our streets have to be clean'

'The public expects local authority to deal with litter on our streets'

The council commented that while they do have a responsibility, they 'do not reward bad behaviour'

They stated that they must navigate a balancing act by giving people an opportunity to do the right thing and clean up after themselves.

Coilín O'Reilly, in his first day as the new CEO for Carlow County Council, said that 'it's a complex issue' with a 'small minority' of people causing issues.
