Armed robbery at post office on High Street in neighbouring county

Armed robbery at Kilkenny Post Office on High Street

Staff and customers at the post office at High Street in Kilkenny were subjected to a terrifying ordeal after a man entered the premises and brandished an implement and demanded cash on Tuesday 12th September.

The incident took place at approximately 3.30pm and the suspect left the post office on foot. Gardaí apprehended a suspect  close to the scene a short time later. The male is being questioned at Kilkenny Garda Station. A weapon and a quantity of cash were recovered.

The male is now in custody and the matter is under investigation by Kilkenny Gardaí.

Any drivers who were on High Street in or around 3.30pm that may have dash cam footage are asked to contact Kilkenny Garda Station.

The post office remained closed for the rest of the day.

Gardaí are at the scene.
