Tullow business become winners of the prestigious Irish Butchers’ Guild Award

Carlow business, Murphy Craft Butchers, have a heritage dating back to 1909. The Carlow butchers won big in Dingle over the weekend with three awards.

They were awarded a Gold Award for their Traditional Spiced Beef in the Blas na hÉireann Awards.

Murphy’s also won Best in Carlow and the prestigious Irish Butchers’ Guild Award for their exceptional Spiced Beef on the day.

During the judging, which took place over June and July, almost 3,000 entries were judged, the highest on record.

Jim Murphy, Master Butcher spoke about the recognition they received, "We are truly honoured to receive these awards for our Traditional Spiced Beef. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, our commitment to sourcing the finest ingredients, and our passion for delivering the best to our customers."

The Murphy family's family business is run by Jim and Bernadeta Murphy who have previously been honoured with title of Best Butcher Shop of the Year in 2018, winning the Five Nations Doubles Championship in 2019, and Jim's membership in the World's Butchers Challenge Team Ireland, which secured the title in 2018. More recently they represented Ireland at the World Butchers' Challenge 2022 in Sacramento, California, where they proudly secured the title for having the best sausage in the world.

Blas na hÉireann is an annual Irish food awards, with the three-day celebration of the best of Irish food and drink. It took place this year from Thursday 28th to Saturday 30th September.

Speaking as the winners were announced, Blas na hÉireann Chairperson, Artie Clifford said, “We are thrilled to see such deserving winners again this year at Blas na hÉireann 2023. Looking back on 16 years of Blas, it’s fantastic to see the standard of food and drink in Ireland go from strength-to-strength year on year. It’s a real privilege for myself and the whole Blas family to bring these products, and the amazing producers who make them, to a national audience.”
