Local TD asks Taoiseach for funding in budget for volunteer-run soup kitchen in Carlow

Local Fianna Fáil TD Jennifer Murnane O'Connor asks the Taoiseach to include funding for soup kitchens in the budget.

At a Dáil Éireann debate, held on Tuesday 3rd October, Murnane stated "In Carlow, we have set up a soup kitchen, St. Clare's Hospitality Kitchen. There are volunteers who do great work. Around one-hundred-and-twenty meals go out every week to children and families, together with about eighty food parcels.

But there is no Government funding for soup kitchens. There is no help whatever from the Government to support the volunteers, the good people who set up these soup kitchens, who fundraise and do their best to make sure children and families are not going hungry."

St. Clare's Hospitality began in May 2015 serving food three days a week to those who needed it most. The Kitchen now operates five days a week (Monday to Friday) from 12.30pm until 2.30pm.
