Councillors have serious concerns about enforcement of road safety action plans
Carlow County Council's October meeting took place earlier this week. The Road Safety Action Plan was presented at the meeting and while it was praised, many councillors voiced their concerns on the enforcement of these plans.
Cllr. Will Paton raised the issue of speeding, stating that he has 'serious concerns about enforcement'. He called attention to the need for fixed speed cameras at locations where speeding is known to be prevalent.
Cllr. Fergal Brown raised the issue of hedge-cutting and how overgrown hedges have a massive impact on road safety. Councillor Brown asked that every landowner is sent a written letter to cut their hedges.
Cllr Michael Doran stated that 'enforcement is a big issue - Gardaí must be visible.' He went on to say that 'driver behaviour is the biggest issue' and we must focus on educating.
Cllr. Charlie Murphy stated that 'enforcement is key'.
