County Carlow launch new book on stories of family and food throughout the generations

Carlow County Council’s Local Enterprise Office and Library Service have collaborated to create a new publication called “Generations - A County Carlow Story of Family and Food”.

The new book will launch on Thursday 19th October at 7.30pm in Carlow Library on College Street, Carlow Town.

Speaking about the publication, John Shorthall, County Librarian said “In the heart of this book a captivating narrative unfolds, inviting readers to embark on a culinary journey through the ages. We are thrilled to announce the launch of ‘Generations - A County Carlow Story of Family and Food’, a book that masterfully weaves together the tapestry of Carlow's people and their profound connection to food. This remarkable book transcends time and reminds us of the enduring power of family and heritage”. John concluded by saying “we are delighted to bring the launch of this publication to our library as libraries are the keepers of local stories and the guardians of community wisdom. They serve as portals to the past, windows to the present, and gateways to a brighter future, all while celebrating the unique voices and narratives that enrich our shared heritage”.

Kieran Comerford, Head of Economic Development & Enterprise said “we are delighted to bring together these fourteen stories from across County Carlow. These stories represent business, family and community”. Comerford continued to say "Family is the economic backbone of Carlow and the threads that weave the fabric of communities. They are the primary source of support, the creators of entrepreneurs, and the guardians of local economies. Strong families build strong communities, fostering resilience and driving economic growth that benefits all."

Launching the book will be Cllr. Andrea Dalton, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council who said “I’m really looking forward to the publication of this book. The heart of Carlow beats in its kitchens, where food unites people across generations, representing love, care, and dedication. In Carlow, this connection is heightened by a deep sense of community. Families gather, stories are shared, and culinary heritage is celebrated. ‘Generations’ showcases the tireless effort and passion of Carlow's people. It preserves sacred recipes and embodies values of love, respect, and gratitude. Each dish is a gateway to stories and cherished moments, from hearty stews to delicate pastries. Each recipe holds Carlow's history and spirit. I encourage everybody to come along.”
