The award of €10,000 each to Palatine and Ballinkillen to GAA Clubs under the Healthy Ireland GAA Walking Tracks Initiative has been welcomed in Carlow.

The funding has been awarded from an overall scheme of €800,000 for 54 GAA clubs in 26 counties to improve the accessibility of existing community walking track facilities on GAA grounds.

Over 300 clubs submitted applications to the scheme when it initially opened in April. This additional €800,000 is being allocated to several clubs which did not receive funding from the original application process earlier in the year.

Speaking of the award, local TD Jennifer Murnane O'Connor said:

"This funding, which has been awarded to Palatine and Ballinkillen GAA Clubs, is hugely welcome.

"It will help the clubs to make upgrades to their walking tracks, making them more inclusive, promoting physical activity and enhancing the overall health and wellbeing of our local area.

"I recognise the huge importance of Palatine and Ballinkillen GAA to our community here in Carlow and I thank the GAA and Healthy Ireland for the significant work done in this process."
