Carlow local Brooke Cassidy sets out to make a difference in South Africa
Palatine GAA Clubhouse are set to host a fundraiser table quiz tonight, Friday 17th November, at 8pm in aid of Carlow's Brooke Cassidy who will travel to Cape Town, South Africa in March alongside thirty-five other volunteers with Freeland projects.
You can enter the quiz as a table of four for €40, with raffle prizes up for grabs on the night.
Speaking to Carlow Live, Brooke said "We plan to build a rescue centre for abused, orphaned, and neglected children with the hope to provide them with a safe, clean environment for them to live."
"Since I was a little girl, this has always been a lifetime goal of mine. I have always wanted to go and do something like this. I really want to challenge myself to get out of my comfort zone. If embarking on this journey makes a difference in one child’s life, then I know that the journey was worth it. When I’m older I know I will look back on this time and experience, knowing the positive impact that I have made.
Personally my main goal is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of disadvantaged children showing the harsh realities that these children face in their everyday lives, with the hopes of providing them with a stepping stone for a brighter future. In doing so I hope to encourage other people to step out of their comfort zone and volunteer for a cause close to them!"
The completion of this project is solely dependant on volunteers & fundraising.
Brooke's journey will cost €3,500 which will cover flights, accommodation, transportation, building expenses & equipment.
Brooke has set up a gofundme page where donations can be made HERE
"All amounts will be greatly appreciated and will go a long way."
While in South Africa Brooke will be documenting her journey on her Instagram page (@bcinsouthafrica)
