ALERT: 'Don't walk on lakes that look frozen,' says Carlow weatherman as Yellow warning issued
Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow - Low Temperature/Ice warning for Ireland.
Very cold with severe frost and icy stretches have been forecast for the whole country as motorists have been warned to be extra vigilant on roads. The cold weather could also impact vulnerable people and animals.
Temperatures have plunged all over Ireland with Thomastown in Kilkenny recording a chilling -8.6c this morning.
Carlow weather man Alan O'Reilly has also warned the public who are thinking about walking on any frozen lakes to refrain from doing so, saying the ice is no where near thick enough to withstand the pressure.

The warning is valid from 5pm today, Thursday 18 until 11am tomorrow, Friday 19.
