The team from Active Travel Carlow are making significant progress on the Tullow Road Pedestrian & Cycle Scheme.

Construction is well underway to create 'a safer and more connected network for pedestrians and cyclists in Carlow Town.'

The team have repurposed railway sleepers to create a more sustainable retaining wall over traditional concrete (pictured above).

The scheme is part of Carlow County Council's Active Travel Program, which aims to encourage more people to walk, cycle, and use public transport.

The Tullow Road Pedestrian & Cycle Scheme is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2024.

The aim is to provide locals with a safer and more convenient way to travel between the residential areas of Silver Pines, John Sweeney Park, Willow Park, Burrin Manor, The Laurels with linkage to the River Burrin Linear Park.

The area will also benefit from reduced traffic congestion and improved air quality.
