RIP: Carlow mother of five remembered as a 'beautiful warm and compassionate person'

Tributes have poured in from across Carlow after a local mother of  five sadly passed away recently.

Eleanor Hughes (née Harty) was from Fenniscourt, Bagenalstown in Carlow and died on October 22 2025.

She is very much missed by her loving husband Pat, her children Claire, Patrick, Tom, John, Jackie and son in law James.

She is also dearly missed by her treasured grandchildren Shauna, Liam and Fionn, her siblings Eddie, Una and Ann, her brothers in law and sisters in law and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Predeceased by her brothers & sisters Michael, John, Herbie, Cyril (Buster), Mary, Deidre and Paula,

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS:

Reposing at her residence on Monday 27th October from 2.pm to 8.pm. A Celebration of life for Eleanor will take place in Newlands Cross Crematorium on Tuesday 28th October at 2.30pm.

Family flowers only donation’s please to Carlow/Kilkenny Community Specialist Palliative Care Team.

Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and fondly remembered Eileen, with one mourner writing,

"I was so sorry to hear of Eleanor's death...May she rest in eternal peace...I knew Eleanor some years back and always enjoyed her company...especially at a game of poker! A really lovely person...My deepest sympathy to all her family...God grant you all great courage and consolation at this time of deep sorrow...".

Another message said, "Sincere condolences to the Hughes and Harty family on the sad passing of Eleanor. A beautiful warm and compassionate person. May her gentle soul rest in eternal peace".

"Deepest sympathy to all the family at this difficult time Eleanor was an exceptional lady who always took time to chat with friends and the wider community she will be missed by all who knew her, may she rest in peace," another person wrote.
