RIP: 'Greatest gentlemen'- Carlow man married nearly 50 years sadly passes away

Tributes have poured in following the death of a Carlow man who was married nearly 50 years to his beloved and heartbroken wife.

John Hughes was from Clonegal, Carlow and formerly Bunclody, Wexford and died peacefully following a short illness, at Wexford General Hospital.

He is deeply loved and cherished by his loving wife of almost 50 years Kathleen, his children Patrick, James, John and Marguerite, daughters-in-law Brenda, Heather and Lisa, son-in-law Andrew, his grandchildren Owen, Orla, Hannah, Ruth, Aoife, Genevieve, Gabrielle and Eleanor, sisters Mary and Margaret, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A sincere thank you has been made to the staff of Carnew Community Care, Carnew Nursing Home and Wexford General Hospital for their exemplary care over the past months.

Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and fondly remembered John, with one mourner writing,

"On behalf of Lady Captain Linda Dunne, Presidents Mary Timmins and Barty Turner, and the membership and staff of Coollattin Golf Club, I express sincere condolences to John’s sons John and James, valued members of Coollattin, and to John’s family, loved ones and friends. Rest in peace".

Another message said, "Dear Kathleen and family. We’re so saddened to hear of the death of your beloved husband and father, John. May his gentle soul rest in peace. We have many fond memories of him down through the years. Our condolences also to his sisters Margaret and Mary. Unfortunately we are abroad and won’t be able to attend the funeral but we send our love from all your ‘Tullow’ Kinsella cousins".

A Clonegal man: "Deepest sympathy to Kathleen and family on the sad passing of John. John was one of nature’s greatest gentlemen. He was extremely skilled at his craft. May his kind and gentle soul rest in eternal peace".
