A mother and her young son have welcomed a new addition to their family this week- CoCo the puppy from Carlow/Kilkenny dog shelter.

CoCo was once a stray found roaming the streets of Carlow when he was rescued by the shelter earlier this month and has been waiting for his forever home very patiently.

Billy and his mother Mary have been visiting the shelter for many years, every Easter and Christmas the pair visit with gifts for the dogs.

On their last visit, they brought home Coco, who was one of their first intakes of the new year.

The dog shelter said that there "was lots of excitement when he was being collected, Billy the little boy got to take his new best friend Coco home.

"What a lucky pup he is to have found such a great home, we know he will have a great life with the O’Connor family, thank you for choosing to adopt a shelter dog, we wish you years of happiness together, let the adventures begin".
