RIP: 'A true gentlemen'- Tributes pour in for popular Carlow man respected by many

Tributes have poured in for Tommy Fitzharris formerly of ESB Portlaoise and Carlow who died recently.

Tommy was from Rutland, Bennekerry, Carlow and died on 23rd February, 2026, peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Deeply regretted by his devoted wife Joan, daughter Sheena, sons Mark, Lorcan, Tommy, Kilian, Darren and Shane, his sisters Kathleen, Maureen and Lily. Pre-deceased by his brothers John Joe and Lorcan.
Sadly missed by his son-in-law Tom, daughters-in-law Ciara, Alison, Sharon, Anne Marie, and Melanie and his adoring 23 grandchildren. Tommy will be remembered with love by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Donations, if desired to can be made to St. Clare’s Hospitality Kitchen, Graiguecullen.

Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and fondly remembered Tommy, with one mourner writing,

"Sincere condolences to Joan, Tommy Jnr and all the Fitzharris family on the sad passing of your beloved Tommy. A true gentlemen he had a great sense of humour and will be remembered with great respect and many fond memories by everyone in the club. May Tommy rest in peace."

Another message said, "We are so saddened to hear of the passing of Tommy. Our deepest condolences to Joan, Sheena, Mark, Lorcan, Tommy, Killian, Darren, Shane and all who loved Tommy, we are so sorry for your loss. What a lovely welcoming home Tommy and Joan created where love and laughter was in abundance. He will be remembered so fondly by all who knew him".

"My sympathies to Joan, Lorcan and all of the late Tommy’s family at this deeply sad time for you all.
He was a most committed, willing and loyal ESB man, often involved where the need was greatest and the demands most onerous. He never failed to deliver in his own inimitable way. Rest in peace, Tommy," another person said.
