Funeral to be held in Carlow following the passing of a woman known and loved by many.
Marie Whelan (née Butler) was from Barrowville House, St. Mullins, Co. Carlow and formerly of Dunmore Road, Co. Kilkenny.
Predeceased by her husband Jimmy. Marie passed away peacefully at University Hospital Waterford, surrounded by her loving family.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters Deborah, Siobhan, Fiona and Yvonne, sons Declan and James, brothers Dessy and Dermot, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.

Reposing at Cooney's Funeral Home, New Ross, (eircode:Y34 FK44) on Wednesday, March 25th from 4pm concluding at 7pm.
Removal on Thursday, March 26th to The Church of St. Moling, Glynn, (eircode: R95 HY49) arriving for her funeral mass at 11am followed by burial afterwards in Calvary Cemetery, Graiguenamanagh.
The Whelan family would like to extend their gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses and staff of University Hospital Waterford, for all the care and kindness given to their mother throughout her illness.
The family very much appreciates your support and kindness at this very sad time.
Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and fondly remembered Marie with one mourner writing,
"Sincere sympathies to the entire Whelan family on the sad passing of Marie, a wonderful lady. We will be keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers".
Another message said, "Our heartfelt condolences to Siobhán, Deborah, Fiona, Yvonne, Declan and James and the extended family on the very sad passing of Marie. I am so glad I was able to catch up with Marie a couple of months ago when she was up visiting in the Bleach Road, as she so often did over the years.
"She loved having the chats and a laugh and was as sharp as a button. Marie was a true lady and she will be greatly missed. You are in our thoughts and prayers at this heartbreaking time. May your lovely Mammy Marie Rest In Peace".
