A strange machine seen making its way across the River Barrow in Carlow Town on Monday has been confirmed as akin to a "floating Swiss army knife".
Earlier in the week - after pictures of the machine appeared on social media - Carlow County Council said the machine belongs to Waterways Ireland who have responsibility for navigable rivers.
They added: "The purpose of it being moored in Carlow is unknown."
In a statement to Carlow Live today, Waterways Ireland cleared up the confusion and confirmed that the "strange machine" is around the town for specialist training.
They said: "The Watermaster is like a floating Swiss army knife and can undertake a wide range of tasks from the water. It is currently there as specialist training is being provided to new staff."
