Ballon village in Carlow
Ballon in Carlow is to get a new Post Office, it has been confirmed to Carlow Live.
An Post earlier this week released a list of 159 Post Offices that will close in the coming months, including two which will affect customers in Carlow.
Alongside the closures, An Post intends to open five new Post Offices, and Ballon has been chosen as the location for one of these.
It's understood the Carlow village meets the criteria of a population over 500 people as the area boasts a population of around 800.
An Post will advertise a contract to provide Post Office services in Ballon in the coming days and applicants can then make their interest known.
There was a Post Office in Ballon a number of years ago but it closed.
