Plans for a regular bus service in Carlow Town are "still being developed and are not finalised yet", the National Transport Authority have confirmed.

It was revealed this week that the bus service for Carlow Town was 'agreed in principle' after efforts from the county's Public Participation Network persuaded the NTA.

The NTA gave a presentation to Carlow Municipal District members earlier this year outlining their proposals, plans and two specific routes for a new and regular bus service installed in Carlow Town by the end of 2019.

However, in a statement to Carlow Live on Wednesday, an NTA spokesperson said: "Plans are still being developed and are not finalised yet.

"The NTA is keen to progress this and other medium sized town services but there are a number of matters that must be addressed before launching a new service.

"These include agreeing a route and stopping places with the local authority; identifying an operator; procuring buses; assessing infrastructure etc."
