A great idea

Age Friendly parking spaces have been installed in Tullow where 25% of population are aged over 50 years old.

Cllr Will Paton said: "Tullow's population is getting a little older and for those aged 55 and over with mobility issues, life is not always easy and it can be difficult to move around town with ease."

Four new "Age Friendly" car parking spaces located at The Market Square, The Library and Barrack Street have been laid down to assist those aged over 55 years who are not quite disabled (i.e. don't qualify for a Disabled Driver Parking Permit) but at the same time finding getting about difficult.

He added: "The new 'Age Friendly' spaces are courtesy spaces and it is hoped that other motorists will enter in the spirit of this initiative and leave them free for older persons who need them.

"According to Census 2016 a total of 1,147 persons or 25% of the population of Tullow is aged 50 years and over."
