A site survey has been conducted of Bagenalstown Fire Station which discovered "many structural deficiencies" within the building.

The €450,000 refurbishment previously granted "may not fully cover the extent of the works required to ensure the structural integrity of the building", Carlow County Council have stated.

Two main areas of concern are the sloping site and the poor sub-soil conditions which have led to the structural cracking.

A revised report on the future development of the station is required to be issued to the Government in order to establish the most appropriate and sustainable future.

The Council have said that such consideration is required to ensure value for money is obtained whilst meeting the needs of the local brigade.
