Trawl of CCTV identifies suspect after opportunist theft saw €7,000 worth of property stolen

Gardaí say the case shows the importance of quality CCTV

A trawl of CCTV footage has identified a suspect after an opportunist theft saw in excess of €7,000 worth of property stolen from a business in the Graiguecullen area. 

The incident occurred on December 28 when staff at a business premises noticed some property missing after lunchtime and they immediately reported the matter to Gardaí. 

Gardaí carried out a search of the area and checked CCTV footage which allowed them to develop a suspect and a follow up search led to the recovery of the property. 

A Garda spokesperson said: "This demonstrates the advantages of a good CCTV system in operation and a vigilant staff which undoubtedly assisted the Gardaí in investigating the incident, arresting a suspect and recovering the property."
