'An eyesore and a disgrace...'

"It's an eyesore and a disgrace...nothing is being done with it," a councillor has hit out over the condition of Manor House in Bagenalstown.

Cllr Denis Foley was speaking at this month's meeting of Bagenalstown Municipal District, he added: "It's a total disgrace to look in and only see dirt and dumping and it's in the square which is the centre of activity."

He admitted that he knew the local authority owns the apartments behind Manor House but said the premises was an "important shopfront" and asked for it to be "brought up to standard".

Council officials said a period of time has been given for remedial works on the site and this "will be monitored".

Manor House in Bagenalstown is to be taken over by Co-Operative Housing Ireland "as soon as possible" as the deal is finalised, Carlow County Council confirmed recently.
