This morning (December 17) will be cold with scattered showers, some of sleet with the chance of snow on elevated ground.
According to Met Éireann, icy stretches are possible too, leading to hazardous road conditions.
Areas of mist and fog can be expected, with showers easing this afternoon and a good deal of dry bright weather following.
Highest temperatures will be between 1 and 4 degrees, but between 5 and 7 degrees in coastal areas of the south and west in mostly light southerly breezes.
Some frost and ice can be expected tonight with scattered outbreaks of rain spreading from the southwest.
Lowest temperatures of -2 to +3 degrees in freshening southeast winds.
