'Increasingly difficult' to get people to be caretakers of graveyards in Carlow

'If we don't get someone, we haven't got a plan B...'
It's becoming "increasingly difficult" to get people to take on the role of caretaker in Carlow graveyards, a Director of Services at Carlow County Council, Dan McInerney has said.

The matter came up at a meeting of Carlow Municipal District when Cllr Andrea Dalton asked about Tinryland graveyard upkeep where there was a caretaker up until recently.
Mr McInerney said the previous undertaker resigned and it's becoming "increasingly difficult to get people to take on that role".
"If we don't get someone, we haven't got a plan B."
Cllr Jim Deane supported the comments of Cllr Dalton and added that the former caretaker went "over and above" to keep the graveyard clean.
