Carlow gardaí have revealed that a "significant number" of motorists were caught speeding on Thursday throughout the county by members of the Carlow Roads Policing unit.
The drivers were detected as gardaí had established a number of speed checkpoints around Carlow as part of National Slow Down Day.
Not only this, but one of the drivers detected by gardaí failed a roadside drug test. That driver was arrested and gardaí said they will now face a year long driving ban.
All other motorists who were caught speeding will receive fines of €160 and 3 penalty points.
