Carlow County Council has received a planning application for extensive renovation works to Ewing's Pub and Guesthouse in Carlow Town.

Ken Ewing submitted the application for the development at three addresses on Centaur Street in Haymarket, including buildings at 9, 10 and 11 Centaur Street.

The application states that these works are to allow for changes to the bar, lounge and beer garden as well as to provide a "26 room guesthouse complex."

According to the plans submitted, the development would consist of an "existing single storey new build development of 232m2 to the rear of the existing approved pub" at 11 Centaur Street. This would consist of five single bedrooms with en-suites, as well as a kitchen, bar and seating area.

The plans also seek to change the use of the existing two-storey building at 10 Centaur Street from retail to guest accommodation which would consist of eight bedrooms with en-suites, a kitchen, lounge and office facilities. Also proposed at 10 Centaur Street is an "existing single storey new build development of 164m2, consisting of tented beer garden, bar and covered seating areas to the rear."

The application also details plans to reconstruct and change the use of the existing two-storey building at 9 Centaur Street from residential to guest accommodation, consisting of one bedroom. Then, also at this address to the rear, a single-storey new build extension is listed for three bedrooms with en-suites.

Carlow County Council is due to make their decision by 8 October 2025.
