Local senator 'disappointed' over unsuitable materials left in compost bin at St Mary's Cemetery

A local senator says she is "disappointed" over unsuitable materials being left in a new compost bin at St Mary's Cemetery in Carlow Town.
Senator Jennifer Murnane O'Connor said: "I was very happy to hear the great news that following the removal of the skip in St Mary's Cemetery Carlow County Council were installing a compost bin.
"This compost bin would allow those who look after their loved ones graves to deposit suitable materials such as soft landscape materials grass cuttings, weeds, leaves, old plants, flowers, used newspaper, cardboard etc; and then it would generate compost that we could all benefit from, us and the environment.
"However, on a visit to the cemetery with a friend I was disappointed when I brought over the spent flowers from the grave to the compost bin to see that in the warm weather over the bank holiday weekend, unsuitable materials were deposited in the bin along with suitable materials.
"The compost bin will not work if we do not put the correct materials inside. If you see something say something is what I always advise, so let's all work together to use this great facility properly.
