A woman has been convicted and fined after a dispute over the cost of hairdressing services ended up in the courts.

Two women appeared in court charged with dishonestly making off without paying for hairdressing services which cost €300.

The offence took place on November 17, 2021 at 24 Lana Aoibhinn, Longford.

The single charges against both women, Martina Nevin and Chloe Nevin, both of 25 Lana Aoibhinn, Longford, were taken under Section 8 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud) Offences Act 2001.

Defending, Bríd Mimnagh for both women said Chloe Nevin could not be in court owing to the fact she had to attend hospital with her young child.

In revealing Ms Nevin was en route to Mullingar's Midland Regional Hospital, Ms Mimnagh said: “I told her I needed the money the court directed and I have €200 a family member left into the office,” she said.

In directing the money be handed to the injured party, the court heard Martina Nevin had one previous conviction for public order with Chloe Nevin having recorded two previous convictions, including a theft in July 2020.

“This was where there was hair done and there was a dispute about the cost of it,” said Ms Mimnagh.

Judge Owens said she would be striking out the case against Martina Nevin owing to her lack of previous relevant summonses.

Judge Owens, however, said due to Chloe Nevin's “relevant” previous convictions, she would be imposing a nominal fine of €100.

Ms Nevin was given four months to pay.
