The meteorological service has issued a Status Yellow rain warning for Ireland, with Connacht and Cavan set to receive the brunt of poor weather.

Spells of heavy rain can be expected from 2pm on Friday afternoon (August 4) to 9am on Saturday morning (August 5), with spot flooding, poor visibility and difficult driving conditions all possible.

A further Status Yellow rain warning is also in place for Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wicklow, and Monaghan between 6pm on Friday to 1pm on Saturday.

People are advised to take care on the roads.
