INVESTIGATIONS are underway into an incident of “violent disorder” in Limerick city which saw one man miraculously escape death or serious injury.

The incident which took place at approximately 3:30pm on the Ballysimon Road this Monday saw a dark-coloured car being driven at high speed around the forecourt of a filling station with the driver engaging in reverse donuts before driving dangerously fast around the petrol pump station.

CCTV footage of the incident which has been circulating on social media shows the chilling moment that a man dressed in black and yielding an implement comes within inches of the car as it speeds past the pumps before it ploughs into a fire extinguisher and continues on at speed.

The man is seen limping away from the petrol pumps. He is one of three men seen on the footage yielding implements as they chase the car and then attempt to evade danger as it veers towards them.

In the surrounding areas, customers watch the unfolding events with one woman fleeing from the scene as the danger unfolds. Other vehicles can be seen pulling away from the premises.

"It was chilling to see - just unbelievable stuff to see in the middle of the day in Limerick as people are getting their petrol and bits and pieces from the shop," said one eye witness. "What next?" he added.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or for anyone with any information to contact Henry Street garda station on 061 212400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station."
