A Status Yellow rain warning has been issued for six counties.
According to Met Éireann, counties including Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork and Waterford are set to receive rainfall associated with Storm Ciarán from this evening (Wednesday November 1) at 7pm until 7am tomorrow morning (Thursday November 2).
The expected rain combined with saturated ground conditions and high river levels may lead to flooding in these areas.
The warning comes following days of heavy rainfall nationwide, with severe flooding reported in counties Down, Wexford and Louth.
Tonight it will be wet and windy with fresh to strong and gusty northerly winds gradually developing.
Some mist and fog can also be expected with lowest temperatures of 1 to 6 degrees.
Lingering heavy rain across eastern fringes will clear early on Thursday morning.
Sunny spells and scattered showers will follow for the rest of the day, some heavy across west and southwest counties.
Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in moderate to fresh northwest winds.
