The protest in Roscrea
A fundraising campaign to raise money for the man 'injured' during a clash between gardaí and protestors this week has been launched, with 6 donations made by Wednesday afternoon.
The GoFundMe campaign is organised by 'Balding whiteguy'. Under the title 'This man deserves better', the fundraising page has raised €70 of its €5,000 target.
Despite misspelling the name of the Tipperary town, the campaign has prompted 6 people to make donations so far, the largest of which was for €20.
The page outlines: "today in rosscrea (sic) this gentleman was brutally attacked by the Gardai while protesting peacefully. This should not stand and he deserves better.
"Let’s at least get enough to cover his medical bills and get him a few pints in his local. It’s the least he deserves," the GoFundMe page outlines.
The man is understood to have been caught up in clashes between gardaí and protestors at the Racket Hall Hotel in Roscrea, Co Tipperay during the week.
A protest has been in place in Roscrea since before the weekend after it was announced that the only hotel in the town was to close and instead house international protection applicants.
