Seven hospitalised following evacuation of main building at university campus in Limerick

Seven people have been taken to hospital after emergency services responded to an incident at a university campus in Limerick city.

The Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) main campus building at Moylish was evacuated this Wednesday morning after reports of a "possible irritant in the air."

Members of the Limerick Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene where an inspection took place.

No source was found for the irritant and following the inspection, the fire service gave the all-clear for students to return to the building a short time ago.

Seven people, including TUS staff and students were taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick as a precautionary measure.

TUS has initiated an investigation into the incident, which saw its main building being taken out of commission for more than three hours.

An Garda Siochana has confirmed members of the force also attended the incident to support the efforts of other emergency services.
