Gardaí investigating theft of beehives and native Irish bees

Two beehives were stolen in Roscommon in recent days with local gardaí appealing for information

Two beehives have been stolen from a property in County Roscommon recently.

Gardaí are investigating the incident which involved the theft of two beehives from a domestic location at Deerpark, Boyle, County Roscommon.

The incident is understood to have occurred overnight, between Tuesday, February 20 and Wednesday, 21 February 2024.

Each beehive is believed to have weighed approximately 30kgs and house native Irish Black Bees.

The bees are believed to have been just emerging from winter hibernation.

The beehives are painted blue and were not visible from the road. 

Investigating Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have information on this incident, or who may have witnessed it, to make contact with Gardaí at Boyle Garda Station on (071) 966 4620, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
