Over €5m worth of illegal tobacco found hidden in vehicle at Dublin Port

Illegal tobacco with a value of over €5 million has been seized by Revenue officers.

The seizure of approximately 6,090kg of tobacco took place yesterday (Monday March 11) at Dublin Port.

The illicit tobacco, branded ‘Flandria’, was discovered in a container within a vehicle which had arrived from Rotterdam, the Netherlands and represents a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €3,770,800.

This seizure - which occurred as a result of risk profiling - is part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the sale and supply of illegal cigarettes and tobacco in the shadow economy.

If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295.

Investigations are ongoing.
