Teenage boy dies after water-related incident in North Kildare

It is understood that the incident appears to be a tragic accident

A teenage boy has died following a water-related incident in the Grand Canal located in North Kildare.

When asked about the incident by the Leinster Leader, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: "At approximately 5.40pm on Saturday, May 11, 2024, Gardaí became aware of a person who had gotten into difficulty in the water in the Grand Canal in between Ardclough and Celbridge in County Kildare.

"A number of emergency services attended the scene and the body of a male youth in his teens was recovered from the water a short time later."

The spokesperson concluded: "The local coroner has been notified, and arrangements are being made for a post-mortem examination."

It is understood that the incident appears to be a tragic accident.
