Apparent human skeletal remains were uncovered at a works site in Galway on Thursday.
Gardaí in Galway were alerted shortly after midday yesterday following the discovery of apparent human remains in the Merlin Park area of Galway City.
The remains are understood to be historical in nature. Gardaí said in a statement that the National Museum of Ireland has been notified, and the location has been preserved for examination.
Skeletal remains were only recently discovered during a dig in the Galway town of Ballinasloe in October, where gardaí and the National Musem were also called in to investigate. The bones discovery had been made during an archaeological excavation.
Gardaí have said that no further information is available at this time.
