Mayo Roads Policing can now carry out a vehicle insurance status check while on the roadside by checking its registration on the Garda Mobility App.
At a recent checkpoint in Ballyhaunis the mobility app showed that the vehicle they had stopped had no insurance even though it had an insurance Disc displayed which was not genuine.
The owner of the vehicle then arrived in a separate vehicle also registered to him and a check on that vehicle also showed it had no insurance.
Both vehicles were seized and court proceedings are to follow.
